Skills acquired (at the end of the course): How to calculate plant irrigation requirements, irrigation parameters, principles of irrigation network design.

Course program
LESSONS TOPICS. Hydrology: Rainfall.
Hydraulics: Physical properties of fluids, Hydrostatics, Hydrodynamics (orifices, weirs, channels and pipes). Soil-water relationships: Soil-water potential, Soil-water constants, Soil moisture retention curves, Water flow in saturated and unsaturated soil, Infiltration. Irrigation technique and methods: Crop-water and irrigation requirements, Irrigation parameters and irrigation scheduling, Sprinkler and localized irrigation, Fertirrigation.
EXERCISES TOPICS: Hydrostatics, Hydrodynamics (weirs, channels and pipes). Crop-water and irrigation requirements calculations, elements to be taken into accout and to determine for the design of an irrigation system.
